Kurland, Cecchetto and Puck team for Governor's Ball

Jeffrey Kurland will serve as chair, Cheryl Cecchetto will produce and Wolfgang Puck will design the menu for the Governors Ball, the celebration that will follow the 84th Academy Awards on Oscar Sunday, Feb. 26. Cecchetto is taking the reins for the 23rd consecutive year, Puck joins for the 18th year in a row and this will be the third for Kurland, who is an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences governor representing the Art Directors Branch. "This year's Governors Ball re-envisions the celebration. We will offer a radical departure from the traditional sit-down affair, reinforcing the Academy's commitment to originality and excellence," Kurland said. Cecchetto created an open format that will allow the event's 1,500 guests to circulate among a variety of seating configurations while enjoying cuisine from Puck. Guests will include Academy Award winners and nominees, show presenters and other telecast participants. "This year's design is a chic and simple canvas for intimate conversations and freedom of movement," Cecchetto said. "Guests will experience Wolfgang Puck's tasting menu and the evening's musical entertainment with a backdrop of relaxed glamour." In addition to overseeing the dcor, menu and entertainment planning for the ball, Kurland will design the attire to be worn by the evening's staff. He received an Oscar nomination for Costume Design for "Bullets Over Broadway." The Governors Ball will take place in the Grand Ballroom on the top level of the Hollywood & Highland Center immediately following the telecast. Contact Christy Grosz at christy.grosz@variety.com
